We launched this project for Sunshine Week 2016 to show FOIA’s impact and urge journalists and others to tell the public when a story relied on FOIA. It could be a brief mention in the story, writing it up in a sidebar or posting on social media.  While this collection includes recent stories that used the federal FOIA, hundreds more stories in our FOIA Files are searchable and online.

SGI’s FOIA Files includes over 700 stories by journalists and others showing FOIA’s impact. Each story in our FOIA Files is cataloged by category, geographic identifiers and summarized. Each summary includes a short description of the story and FOIA’s contribution to that story.
